Community Work at Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens

We will be helping out in the community work at Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens.

The objectives are :
1) To bring joy to the elderly residents of Ling Kwang Home through interaction
and games.
2) To assist the caregivers of Ling Kwang Home in helping with certain laborious
tasks such as simple garden cleaning and cleaning of wheel chairs.

Here are the details:

Team Assignment:

Based on past two years experiences, it is very hard for us to assign the team beforehand as there will be many changes on the day itself. Hence, we will do the assignment only on Saturday.

Generally we will break into teams of four. Two BB Boys + two church helpers (i.e.GB girls, BASIC youths or ARPC members). Each team will collect 14 gift packs (2 gift packs for 1 household) and 10 address to deliver to (3 are spare, in case some recipients are not around).

Hence, in total, each bus will carry 6 teams of four (total 24pax) + 1 Bus I/C and 84 gift packs. We will have around 2 hours for delivery.

Other things to note:

This year, we have also planned for some warehouse duty, such as sorting of items and packing of giftpacks so remember to bring your PT-Kit.

All Boys will be spending time at BB HQ packing gifts and/or delivering gifts by bus, together with the Officers and Primers to the recipients’ home. The Senior Boys / Founder's applicants may also be deployed to the various collection
centres (such as NTUC supermarkets) to help out in receiving the gifts from public donors.

Attire (for both dates) :
Reporting in BB Full Uniform (Day Dress).
The boys must have a neat hair cut.

All Boys are also required to bring their PT kit (BB polo T and shorts with
shoes if they are assigned warehousing duties at BB HQ).

Lunch and Dinner will be provided for the boys by BB HQ. The boys are to bring
along a water bottle.

The number of hours the boys spent helping out will be recorded in their CIP
(Community Involvement Program) in 2011 and they have to help out for both
dates.

In the case of any absenteeism, the Captain must submit a valid reason (medical certificate / Parent’s Letter) for the absence by mail or fax within two weeks from the date of assessment. Companies with Boys who are absent without any valid reason will be placed at a lower priority when signing up for future assessments.

Withdrawal from courses is strictly not allowed. Companies will be billed according to the number of Boys registered. The Founder's Award is the highest and most honourable award a Boy can attain in the Seniors Programme (SP). As such, measures need to be in place to ensure that only deserving Boys be given this due recognition. Therefore, SP Committee seeks to standardise and streamline standards across all SP Companies. The Founder’s Award recipients are expected to display a common minimum standard.

The new Stage 3 Assessment helps to ensure that Boys attain a good level of stage 3 standard. At the same time, it also allow Boys to have lesser stress in completing various awards at different sittings rather than completing an All-In-One assessment structure like the previous Skills Assessment Test.

Only Boys who are in Secondary 3 in 2011 can attend the Stage 3 Assessments. We will not be allowing any Secondary 4 Boys to participate in any future Stage 3 assessments, so please sign up your Sec 3 Boys if they want to apply for the Founder’s Award.

If there is a God, why does he allow suffering?

It’s a huge question, isn’t it? Hardly a day goes by when we don’t come across suffering. Devastation caused by earthquakes and tsunamis… millions living in poverty… children being abused… family breakdowns… bullying… people suffer. We suffer. So it’s right to say to God: “God, if you’re there, why don’t you do something about it?”

Well, imagine we could actually tell God what to do. Where would you suggest he starts? How about God gets rid of the terrorists and the murderers. That would mean a lot less suffering for many people—but suffering hasn’t been eradicated yet. How about God deals with the paedophiles and the drug dealers and the thieves? We can see the world’s getting a much better place, but it’s still not perfect.

How about God gets rid of the unkind, the gossips, the liars, the selfish—oh, but that’s actually me.

You see, when we ask God to get rid of suffering, we’re actually asking him to get rid of us. We do suffer, but we actually cause loads of suffering ourselves. That time when we lost our temper with someone… when we trod on someone to get to where we wanted to… when we ignored our kids because we were just too tired or busy… when we gossiped about a work colleague… when we were just plain nasty to someone. We cause much suffering.

So if we demand that God throws suffering out of this world, we’re actually demanding that he throws us out too.

God is delaying the day when he will deal with all suffering so that we can realise that we’re part of the problem, and we can ask him if there’s any way not to be thrown out of his world.

That’s an answer—but the Bible offers us much more than that. I don’t know you—and maybe you’ve clicked on this video because you’re really struggling with something at the moment. When I’ve struggled in the past, what I need more than answers is hope – I need to know that I’m going to get through this suffering, and I need to know that there’s something beyond this suffering.

And the amazing thing is that God knows what you’re going through when you suffer—because he himself suffered. God lived on earth as a man, Jesus, and Jesus suffered and even died in agony on a cross. He promises to be with those who trust in him, comforting them and helping them through their suffering.

But even more amazing than that promise is that God promises that one day he will put an end to all suffering. Those guilty of causing suffering will one day have to answer to him, and justice will be done. He promises that he’ll make a perfect world, a world of “no more death or mourning or crying or pain”, for those things will be gone forever. And God says that because Jesus died you, me, anyone, can ask for a place in his perfect world instead of being thrown out of it.

You know, when I’m going through suffering, knowing that God is with me, and that one day I’ll live with him in his perfect world, are two amazing hopes that keep me going.

Well, this is a huge and really emotional subject, and I’ve only had a short space to talk to you about it. But why not go along to a good local church, and there you’ll find some people who’ll be able to help you practically, listen to you, and answer any more questions you may have. You know, churches are just full of people who’ve suffered in the past and who may still be suffering now. But they know the promises of God—that he will be with them, and that one day they will live with him forever in a world with no more suffering.

As briefed at the camp, please take note of the following important dates for BB Week 2011

20th and 27th March - collection dates at ARPC service. Please meet at ARPC at 1030am. The primers will accompany you from Woodlands and I will meet you in church. Attire is full uniform
9th April - submission deadline for BB Week Cards. Anyone who submits later that this without a valid reason will not be considered for the incentive prizes. If you can submit earlier, please pass money and cards to either teachers-in-charge or officers

Remember if you don't ask, you will get nothing, so don't be shy in church.

Sorry for the late notice but we are planning to have a Christmas Day picnic this Saturday (25th Dec) at 2pm. There will be food, games, singing and a chance to celebrate Christmas with all your buddies. For those who are interested, we will be going to ARPC following the picnic for the special Christmas service.

Time: 2pm, 25th December, 2010 (plus Christmas service @ ARPC after)

BRITISH power systems and engines giant Rolls-Royce will partner the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to launch up to 11 new aerospace courses to support its future facility at Seletar Aerospace Park.

Many of the existing programmes offered by schools here centre on aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), but the new courses will focus on the manufacturing side of the business.

Currently, more than 90 per cent of Singapore's aerospace industry is tied to the MRO sector. But the balance will tilt a little when Rolls-Royce's new facilities are up and running.

The British company is expected to have its first facility ready by December. The factory will make engine fan blades for large aircraft.

It will be Rolls-Royce's first such plant outside its British headquarters.

Coupled with two other facilities it is building - a regional training centre and a plant to assemble and test engines - it will firmly establish the company as a key tenant at the aerospace park being built in Seletar.

Rolls-Royce's regional director for South-east Asia, Mr Jonathan Asherson, said of the tie-up with ITE: 'We are investing heavily (more than $700 million) in new state-of-the-art facilities in Seletar. When these are complete, we will be manufacturing leading-edge technology and we will need to ensure that there is a strong supply of world-class skills available.

'Partnering with ITE, Rolls-Royce will establish a strong platform to develop the critical skills that our industry will need to stay at the cutting edge long into the future.'

As part of the deal, the two will work together on the course syllabuses and training programmes.

The new programme aims to do two things - train Rolls- Royce staff as well as offer ITE students an opportunity to specialise in the work that the company will do in Seletar.

Mr Tan Seng Hua, principal of ITE College Central, told The Straits Times that the institute currently offers two aerospace courses which 'have been well received by secondary school leavers (and) consistently over-subscribed in recent intake exercises'.

The new programme, tailored to support the needs of Rolls-Royce, will complement the institute's existing courses 'to prepare ITE graduates as well as the existing workforce in the industry to meet the specific skills requirements of Rolls- Royce in the manufacturing of wide chord fan blades', he said.

Students will also have internship opportunities in Rolls-Royce, Mr Tan said, adding: 'Our staff can also be attached to Rolls-Royce as part of their continuing upgrading to keep pace with technological advancement in the industry.'

The new aerospace courses will be launched in the first half of next year, with total student intake expected to reach about 120 in 18 to 24 months, Rolls-Royce said.

Break? What Break?

Even though it was the Hari Raya break and there was no parades held on Saturday. Nothing would stop the boys from meeting up during the long period of breaks due to examinations & public holidays.

A number of the boys met up together for a day at Westwood Bowl for bowling and pool. We played a game or two and to our surprise, the officers & helpers came to join us right after their camp! Tiredness couldn't stop them for a time of bonding.

Well, the officers & helpers (James, Donovan, Su-ying, Angela, Wee Ching & Qing Xiang) of course came with a certain motive! (:

They came to go against us and Sir Donovan got three strikes! We also had Luke who is quite good in bowling (: Well, every boy did their best and certainly had fun especially those who are new to bowling.

Officers+Primers+Helpers won us by 30 points!(only). We'll definitely look forward to a re-match! (:

Not to forget! A few boys also went down to Sembawang Primary to have a fun time playing soccer today(Sunday). Su-ying & Qing Xiang were there to look at us and give us support.

BB Boys, Hope to see more of you attending this kind of outings in the future as it will strengthen our bonding between everyone!

A MESSAGE TO EVERY BOY

You won't know how much you've changed unless you've flipped through your pictures. That's what I did, I flipped through my secondary 1 times & I realised how much i've changed into.

I could still clearly remembered why I joined the 34th Boys' Brigade when I was at the age of 13. It was a conversation between me & my dad, as he was a former St. John's Cadet he requested for me to follow in his footsteps. Then I remembered telling him "Dad, the BB also offers First-Aid too!"

I was not really interested in committing myself to the Boys' Brigade because I had the mindset

that it was only a CCA but something that amazed me was the wide range of activities the Boys' Brigade had to offer.

Until Recruit Camp 2008 which made me feel the importance of the Boys' Brigade and the warmth of the seniors being there for you always.

After achieving Best Recruit 2008 it was like a form of encouragement to do better & to be committed to it.

Having my own role models set in BB, it was SSG Kane Raynard Goh & SLT Jiang Shan. Based on what they have achieved before & after I joined.

Back then it was, now CLT Ng Wei Sheng who was my CSM and through him i've learn the aspects of leadership, having fun when we are supposed to & being serious when we are supposed to.

I was really blessed to have such good seniors like Ping Hau, Budi Hatoto, Wei Sheng, Jiang Shan and others.

Why I enjoyed my 1st year in BB most was because of these seniors that put in the extra mile to make us feel like a family. Now, it's my turn to put what i've learn inorder for my juniors to experience a wonderful time in the 34th Boys' Brigade.

3 years passed at an instance. I could still remember not being on good terms with my fellow batch of boys. We used to quarrel over small things, especially boys like Wei Hua, Jing Long, Jun Xian, Glenn & Others. After 3 years, we're seem like we're stuck side-by-side with super glue. We became like brothers and we do things together & always doing what's best for the company!

Thinking about it, times do run-out & I have approximately 8-9 more months as a BB Boy together with my batch. But this does not end there, cause' i bet many of us are gonna give back what we've learn from our times in the 34th BB.

Speaking about giving back, I know this particular person who can't seem to separate himself from committing to the 34th BB. How 'sticky' he is! (:

He's none other than my beloved Primer, SLT Budi Hatoto. He has brought happiness, joy, seriousness, patience, commitments & tears(of joy) to 34th and has became a part of our lives as he never fails to give up on us and will always be there to cheer us on, in whatever we do.

this pictures were taken this year during the Recruit Camp when we presented him, something money can't buy. The memories and the stepping stone in everything he went through, from a BB Boy to a BB Primer. THANK YOU BUDI! (:

Well, my message to all BB Boys is that 'We are all a big family and ranks/badges/promotions/roles can never ever compare to the bonding we have. I hope we'll(B24) be good role-models as seniors & big brothers to you. You can always come to us when you need a small chat or if you're facing any difficulties. Feel free to just speak to us and be open. Every boy is special in their own way.

I hope my 3 years in Boys' Brigade has shown you that BB isn't all about being strict, drills, discipline, etc. Try participating and giving your fullest in every event and everything that we do together. I hope you would have a permanent memory of the great time you had in the Boys' Brigade. Oh no, not only the Boys' Brigade.. 'The 34th Boys' Brigade in Singapore' !

After A Week Of Rest After The Fun-filled Malaysia Trip, I Hope To See Everyone There! (:

I know, you know - we all wished that this trip was longer. Everyone was really looking forward and excited about this trip! We were all staying up the night before and chatting and spamming each others Facebook pages. Now that the trip is finally over, I wished that we could do it all over again.

I panicked early in the morning when I couldn't find my polo-tee and realized that I left it in school! Gosh. So, What time did you guys reached school? When I reached at 6.20am with a few others, the whole bunch of you were already there. Not forgetting some latecomers, which is a bad habit to start of the trip with!

Everyone was hyper on the bus, especially when they were playing Transformers (you know why!). I was so surprised that the hyper-ness in you guys didn't die down during the 10-hour ride! People like me who were trying to sleep doze off and woke up due to the high level of noise pollution. Haha, the back of the bus was having their own karaoke session. Dang!

When we reached Gopeng, I could tell some of your jaw dropped when you knew that you would you had to stay in a 'kampung' situation for 2 nights. Yes, indeed it was hard to adapt with the countless of mosquitoes and weird crawling creatures - but it's an Adventure Camp, what to expect? Lol.

We didn't really do anything upon arrival but lazing around and having our own chats. It was really funny to talk to some of you and it was indeed great knowing more about you guys! It's been quite a while since I talked to anyone like that. (: My room had a spider-catching slash insect smashing team! Haha. How interesting right? They must be bored to tears. While the seniors on the other side had a chat at the other room which was super funny. You know, I know. (:

Day 2! Please bare with my wordy entry, I know some of you don't like to read! We boarded the lorry and it was an enjoyable and funny ride to our destination. Water Abseiling and White-Water Rafting was seriously the boomz! I personally enjoyed both of them, but I really like White-Water Rafting more - except the water confidence part. It was really great to see everyone really trying and taking part in the activity, it is really a rare experience that you will get in Singapore. I bet many smashed their faces into the rock while abseiling right? While it's okay, it was also very hard for me to balance as water was gushing down my legs!

Everyone wiped out the food as they were too hungry right? Who is already starting to miss the Gopeng Donuts? MEEE! They were so good and everyone was having sugar rush and being hyper in the dormitories. But everyone didn't have an problem at all to go to bed, because we were all too tired - and we all knocked out after lights off!

Won't go too much into detail of each day, but those highlights. Caving! I bet no one expected to hike up for such a long way. But it was really a good experience for me though, it made me felt adventurous - and I am not that type of person! (: Caving was a lil' scary for me, in the dark. But it was fun! And there was bats right? Or some sort of creature, which scared the hell out of me! It is really a very valuable experience for me and I actually witness some really beautiful sights in the cave.

After lunch, we all got change! (Well, except some!) Off to the theme park! I bet many of you are excited about it, but there not much rides there. Only the slides were the main attraction of it and I heard many of you went to queue for the slides for 5 - 6 times! Wow, you must have spend 1.5 hours queuing and the remaining time to play. But it seems like you guys had fun, and most of you were only left with about 5 - 10 minutes to wash up.

Off to the hotel! Everyone was excited! How does it feel to be the first bunch of Singapore student to stay in Town Regency? The apartment was super lush and nice, and it was much more than what we expected. Thumbs up! We went off for dinner and Malaysia's traffic is really dangerous! There is not much traffic lights and we were all permitted to jaywalk for the first time in front of Teachers and Officers. Haha, how cool. (:

We all went separate ways, but most of us (or all) were at Marrybrown to have our dinner. We were all internet deprived and many of us were using the Wi-Fi at Marrybrown. Many think that 1.5 hours of dinner and shopping was not enough, and each group started their own amazing race in the shopping mall! It was so funny, and we TRIED to explore the whole shopping center - but my group only shopped till Level 2. How sad, than it's back to the hotel.

After debrief, I had a really nice and cosy night with my fellow apartment mates (Junxian, Joseph and Kian Rong). Although we could hear some of you guys screaming and shouting at the top of your lungs followed by numerous door slams. We had our pillows and blankets with us while munching cookies and watching Shaun The Sheep on Disney. We had a really nice chat and talking about our lives in BB and in school. It's been a while since I've talked to anyone like that, and I just love the feeling of it. (:

We had to head back home to Singapore the next day, sobs. ): Had our spread of buffet breakfast and we all headed up to pack before bidding farewell to our super luxurious rooms. Good-bye Ipoh, we took away good memories with us. (: The bus ride back was hyper, especially after lunch - it was like everyone was on drugs and losing control. Oh well, boys being boys. You know what I mean right? (: It was overall a very good and successful trip!

A note of appreciation.

Throughout my 4 years in the BB, I have never failed to experience something magical each year. It has though me a lot since I first joined in as a Recruit, and I've changed and grown for the past years. It's been a mind-blowing experience for me and to have so much opportunities for me to further expand my knowledge and capabilities. I truly thank the Officers and Teachers who have helped to groom me along the way, especially Sir Albert and Mr. Lau - who has seen me and nurtured me through my whole 4 years.

To my fellow Brothers in BB: I finally experience what Brotherhood feels like. Being there for someone and showering care and love to that person, that's just part of the Brotherhood. I remembered my senior always being there for me like my Big Brother, and I try to be one to you guys too. You guys are a great bunch to be with, and I have enjoyed my time with you - even when things get a lil' irritating and frustrating at times. I've watched you guys grown (for the Sec 3s), and some of you look really different now! Like Junxian, you look really different from Sec 1! Jing Long, whom I didn't expect to be so outgoing now! He used to be a quiet Boy who hangs around only in his clique. But look at him now, he is so fun loving and is so bubbly!

Well, everyone has grown in the years. Sad to say that my time has come to bid farewell to the Seniors Programme. It's been a really enjoyable time spent with all of you. But my plans now for my future are quite fixed. I have no intentions to come back to continue studying for my 'O's, but you know - maybe you'll see me back in Primers? Well, anything can happen. (:

To the next batch of leaders who are stepping up, I believe you'll do a good job in bringing the company to greater heights! I trust that the company is in good hands. Well, I like to think so. =P Please don't follow the footsteps of my wrong doings. Each person has their own way of leading, and everyone makes mistake along the way. Forgive and forget - 3 humble words each leader should posses. Don't hold any grudges against each other and let there be happiness and harmony in the company. I believe you guys will be able to deliver the expectations in time! (:

To my junior Boys - be patient, tolerant and discipline. Your seniors are always there for you, do approach them in times of troubles or doubts. They are always trying their best to do what's best for you, so listen and follow as they will set an example for you to learn and teach your juniors in the future. After all, you are the future of the company - and the future lies in your hands. It's been great joy getting to know you, even though it's a short time spend. Do listen okay! (:

Well, it's not like I am not going to see you guys in school right! I still have another 3 months before my major examination. It's really sad to leave Seniors Programme as it has given me so much good memories to recollect and reflect. Oh well, it's just part and parcel of life. I can't believe I am graduating, it's just so fast. Watching the company grow from a size of 10 to 30, and having so many moments to take away. 34th will always be in my heart, and I will definitely come back to serve whenever I can. (:

Thank you for the wonderful memories and being a family to me. To the person who will precede my title, be loving and humble, thoughtful and respectful towards them. I'll be back real soon! I love you guys very much, and it's been a blessing in my life to be part of this experience and Brotherhood. ♥

BACK TO HISTORY

Major General R.S.S. Baden Powell was a national hero on the Friday, 8th May 1903 as he attended the London BB demonstration at the Royal Albert Hall. As Honorary Vice-President of the Boys' Brigade In 1903.

In 1904, he reviewed the 700 strong Glasgow Battalion and suggested in the speech that some form of Scout Training would be popular in the Boys' Brigade. Sir William Alexander Smith, founder of the BB in 1883, who was admired by Baden Powell, asked Baden Powell to adapt his military handbook "Aids to Scouting" for the training of Boys.

By 1906, it was reported in the BB Gazette that Baden Powell had placed at the disposal of the BB, the manuscript of a paper on "Scouting for Boys".

Various extracts from the paper were reprinted. A year later, Baden Powell organised the famous "Experimental Camp" on Brownsea Island. Attended by 20 Boys : 10 from public schools and 10 from the Boys' Brigade ; 7 Boys from the 1st Bournemouth Company and 3 from the 1st Poole Company. The BB supplied the equipment for the Brownsea Island Camp. Baden Powell would often tour the country selling his Scouting idead assisted by BB. Scouting became a BB activity.

Our Hon. President of The Boys' Brigade, Singapore, Elder Chua Siak Phuang alias SP Chua was called home to be with the Lord on 24 April 2010. Here is an interview by Straits Time in 2004 on his 90th birthday.

HE MAY be 90 years old, hard of hearing and too frail to walk more than a few steps at a time.

'I didn't know what i was going for, because I was only attracted to the BB uniform shown on the poster.' -- Mr Chua Siak Phuang, on why he joined the movement in 1930. -- ONG CHIN KAI
But Mr Chua Siak Phuang, honorary president of the Boys' Brigade (BB) in Singapore, says he will continue serving the youth organisation until his last breath.

After 74 years in the uniformed group, the nonagenarian still attends its annual general meetings when his health permits.

That S.P. Chua, as the retired businessman is known to friends and colleagues, is one of the 12 founding members of the boys' movement here may explain why it is so close to his heart.
And yesterday, when his family held a big bash at The Pines country club to mark his birthday, they invited all his old friends from BB to join in.

Some of them stood up during the dinner to remember his contributions, from his first days as a cadet up through the military-style ranks of officer and captain and then the top post of president.

When British architect James Fraser founded BB's first company in Singapore in 1930, 47 years after the movement was established in Britain, Mr Chua was among the first dozen to sign up.

He had seen a recruitment poster in his school, the then-Anglo-Chinese Continuation School, now Anglo-Chinese School, he recalled in an interview with The Straits Times yesterday.

'And I just went to the Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church where Mr Fraser held the recruitment.
'I didn't know what I was going for, because I was only attracted to the BB uniform shown on the poster,' he said, referring to the distinctive navy blue shirt, bermudas and pillbox hat.

Although his parents believed in ancestral worship, they did not object to him joining the Christian-based BB as it made him more disciplined.

Showing this reporter a faded photograph of a gymnastic team from the first Singapore BB company, he said: 'I'm in this picture. I loved gymnastics as it was a good way to flex my muscles. Eventually, I became a gymnastics instructor to the younger cadets. Even though I'm 90, I still have a flexible body.'
Ten years after joining the BB, Mr Chua, who was by then an inspector with the then-Singapore Improvement Trust, the Housing Board's predecessor, succeeded Mr Fraser as captain of the BB's first Singapore company, leading the group in activities such as gymnastics, camping and community service.
The Japanese Occupation were dark days for him and the movement. Two members were killed when the Japanese found them with badges given by the Brigade.

'The BB was seen as a British organisation and the Japanese hated anything connected with the British,' he explained.

He had to hide his BB paraphernalia such as documents in his wife's family home - he married Rosie in 1942 - at Veerasamy Road, off Serangoon Road.

When the war ended, Mr Chua and his BB comrades revived the movement.

He rose to be its president from 1958 to 1965, during which it grew from strength to strength. In 1999, as a tribute to him, it made him honorary president.

Today, he is the only pioneer member still active in the BB, which has grown in membership from 4,500 in 1999 to 7,000 today.

Joining the Brigade has become a family tradition. His three sons and a daughter were members of the Boys' Brigade and sister group, the Girls' Brigade.
His nine grandchildren too were part of both organisations.

Asked why he remains a lifelong member, Mr Chua said: 'I'm thankful to the BB because it transformed me from a rebellious boy to an obedient son.
'As I spent more time with the organisation, it became part of my life.'

Last night's celebrations at The Pines was attended by 150 people, including BB alumni and former army chief Winston Choo and MP Chiam See Tong (Potong Pasir).
Mr Chiam, who was under Mr Chua's captaincy in the 1940s, said: 'S.P. has spent most of his life with the BB; he's become synonymous with it.
'There should be more dedicated people like S.P., who devoted himself to the BB without any material gain.'

It First Started With Trainings Such As Soccer, Archery, Basketball, Badminton & More Of Other Sports. Preparing & Organizing To Have A Strategy For The Upcoming BB Blaze.

After School The 5 Participating BB Boys, Wei Hua, Jing Long, Hong Liang, Raymond & Me Went For Meetings To Discuss On The Location & The Procedure At RP. The Team Leader Was CPL Wei Hua Taking Charge & Informing The Other 4 Boys.

On Friday Evening All Blaze Boys Except Hong Liang Came Over To My Place For An Overnight Stay So As To Leave The Next Morning Together. We Spent The Night Packing The Items, Revising On The Notes On The Olympic Games Til 1 am In The Morning. Sleeping With Our Handphones & Notes Beside Us (:

Yet Another Morning With Me Waking Them Up With My Super Alarm With A Screaming Ringtone. Every Single Jumped Up From Their Bed With Shocked Faces (:

5.30 am - We Were At Sun Plaza's Macs Eating A Heavy Breakfast. As you Can See Jing Long Taking Such A Big Bite! We Were All Half-Awake At That Time Trying To Multi-Task. Revise On Notes & Breakfast.

6.05 am - Soon We Found Ourselves In A Cab Heading Towards Woodlands Secondary As We Prayed For The Safety & Welfare Of Our Team. Warming Up & Drinking Loads Of Water To Hydrate Ourselves. We Were All 3 Quarter Awake (:

6.50 am - Bus Arrived @ WDL SEC & We Were All Discussing On our Roles In The Bus.

After 20-30 Minutes Of Travelling. We Finally Arrived At SAFTI MI ! Being Hyped Up & Focusing On The Race. Drawing The Lots & We've Got The First Station, Badminton. It Was A Tough Time Even Before The Race Started, When We Needed To Come Up With A Important Decision To Choose The First Four Who Would Be Starting & One For Reserve. Most Importantly, To Make Decisions For The Best Of The Team.

Being Supposely The Reserve, I Started As The First Team Together With Team Leader Wei Hua, Raymond & Hong Liang. Jing Long Was Willing to Become A Reserve. Fast-forward, The Four Of Us Raced Off When The Horn Was Sounded! Moving On To Badminton & Needing To Go Back To The HQ After Every Completed Spots.

Rain Poured Down & We Had No Choice But To Take Shelter Til 11.30 am. A 2 Hour Wait Which Resulted In Lost Of Time. God's Power Was So Strong That When We Couldn't Climb Up The Hill I Decided To Sing A Song To Motivate Everyone To Jog & Reach The Summit. We Were All Jogging & Singing Therefore Being Justified. It Did Work & By The Time The Song Finishes We Were All Relieved.

We Went On To A Total Of 5 Stations With High Points. Kayaking, Basketball, Badminton, Repelling & Table Tennis. 1 Hours 30 Minutes Til Cut-Off Time. We Substituted Hong Liang For Jing Long. Jing Long Was So Hyper & The 3 Of Us Were All Collapsing Soon. We Took Risks to Go For The Cycling Station, In The End Disappointment Came When We Were Told The Points Given For Cycling Wasn't Allowed.

Such Despair Was Obviously Shown From our Faces. I Was Not Disappointed With Any Of My Team Mates. We COMPLETED THE RACE! Blood, Sweat & Tears (+ Cramps) Were All Worth Every Single Step We Ran & Jogged.

- CPL Wei Hua Struggled With His Leg Cramps, Being The Leader Of The Team He Couldn't Even Think Of Giving Up But To Keep Pushing Himself To The Highest Limits.

- CPL Raymond Tan Was The Inspiration To The Team. Everyone Was Thinking, "What's Wrong With Raymond?" Why? Because He Was Running Non-Stop With No Complaints.

- CPL Hong Liang Before He Was Substituted He Was Always Pushing Everyone, Carrying The Bags Of Others & Taking So Much Initiative.

- CPL Jing Long Was A Bull, After Being Subbed In He Never Walked & He Did A Great Job In Kayaking.

Going Through 2 Years, One In Adventure Quest 2009 & This Year In The First Ever BB Blaze 2010 Was Such A Challenge For Me, to Push Myself Out Of My Comfort Zone To Keep Going & To Motivate My Team.

I Think To Everyone, I'm The Nagger In The Team Which Keeps Pushing Everyone. Ms Mavis Named Me As The Team's Nanny Last Year (:

What to say? I guess you guys are still feeling pretty disappointed after the results were announced yesterday. My heart was pumping when Mr. Wong was up on the podium to give his speech and to announce the winner. I was sitting next to Sulivia, and both of us were very nervous and scared at the same time. I got to admit that my heart sank when the results were announced - and the first thing I could think of was that all our efforts had 'sort-off' gone into the drain.

I can't possibly ask you guys to get over it, because I can't too. But always keep in mind, that this is just part of God's plan for us. Even though, I might be disappointed or upset - but no matter what, I am always very proud of all of you guys. Without you guys, we would not even be able to compete in the competition! To me, it's not really about winning or losing - but it's also about the bonding we had during the training sessions with our fellow Brothers and Sisters.

I cannot emphasize how proud I am of every single one of you, even if you're just a reserve - everyone plays a part. I remember during my Chinese lesson, I learned that losing is just part of the process that makes you stronger. We always got to have positive minds and remain bright and jolly. That's what BB and GB is all about, and remember that God is watching over us no matter where or what we are.

I urge all of you to continue to remain positive in your thinking and attitudes, and also continue to come for the rehearsals. Let us congratulate the winner with warm and open hearts! We can still be the best supporting contingent! (: I really thank God for bringing me to BB, where I receive warm from all of you. Thank you for being like a family to me - BB and GB is always in my heart, and life is always incomplete without it. I guess the other seniors would think that way too.

No matter how heavy your heart is, please come for rehearsal on Tuesday (6 April 2010)! Attire is Half-Uniform. Fall-In at 3pm for all Sec 1 to 3 plus 4NT. Yes, Sec 1's - you're also part of the supporting contingent. So please go get help from your seniors on how to march. (:

BAND OF BROTHERS!

I just counted - I only had barely ten hours of sleep during the three days two nights camp. You got to agree that there were definitely highlights during the camp and some not so pleasant moments that we want to forget. Let's face it alright - this camp wasn't as great as the other camps, but there were definitely learning points to take away during the entire process.

Planning for camp started two weeks back, I brainstormed for ideas that thought would appeal to you guys. Sorry that we didn't have as much outing as last year, but I guess you guys had fun at the slides during swimming right? Plus sabo-ing each other in the pool and getting splashed by the big bucket in the children's pool. It is indeed with great joy that I see you guys being happy and bonded as a company and having fun.

But you can't possibly have fun all the time right - we're in a uniformed group after all, and discipline is still of utmost important during all times. So that includes during camp times. I don't know why, but you guys seemed to be more rowdy this year! Is it because you guys are growing, or what? Whatever it is, please try to really behave yourself and be serious when needed. You don't want the officers or your seniors to come shouting at you about such matters, it brings us no pleasure to do so too. I honestly felt very frustrated when you guys were out of my control and running around as if it was the Night Safari (especially during Night Games). PLEASE be more discipline in future camps/trainings/parades, so everyone can have fun at it's maximum.

Enough about discipline! So what time did you guys sleep? I know the rooms are a lil' cramped for about 15 people to share. While you guys were sleeping - your other seniors and I, as well as the officers, were busy debriefing and planning for next day's activities - this could even stretch us up to 3am in the morning! When I was going up to the room to get some sleep, I realised that there wasn't any space for me! ): So sad, someone actually 'took' my place - and poor me had to settle somewhere else.

Budi's Farewell on the second night was 'quite a surprise' to him, and left some of us in tears. I was really sad to see him leave the company, as he was one of those who has watched me grown since my early days in the BB. Sometimes you just can't hold back your tears, because thats what all brotherhood is about - and I hope you'll experience what brotherhood is in the near future.

But I really got to say that I am very proud of each and everyone of you for putting up a good show during Passing Out Parade, keeping in mind we only had a short period of time for rehearsal! Well done guys! I felt very proud of the recruits especially - you guys have attained you first badge! Job well done on passing you target, this just marks the start of your journey with the BB. I hope you'll fit in into your new squads after Nic and me "passed you on" to the Squad Leaders. To the Sec 3 leaders, it is time you step up and take over leadership role as the Sec 4s would be leaving the company very soon. It is indeed a very saddening moment that our life in the seniors program would end, in 2 months.

Congratulations to PTE Jeremiah for being the latest Best Recruit of 34th Company! "Being the Best Recruit is about showing care and respect to fellow peers and officers, and also taking the initiative and outshining to be the best among all.", I quote this sentence from what the emcee read out to everyone present during the parade.

As Best Recruit, you have got to live up to the high standards and expectation of the honor that has been given to you. But most important, the company has to work together as one to bring the company to greater heights!

Remember what Sir Albert said during team building session? 34th is not famous for it's drill, or outstanding achievements in AQ or CQ, or getting Gold for J M Fraser, or getting the highest BB Week collection - but it's about our bonding. The key and most essential thing that each company should have, but lack. We have it and we should live up to it!

How do you feel after the camp? We should feel proud to be in 34th, a sense of belonging and identity - together as one. Let's get to know more about each other as we walk this journey together as brothers - one for all, all for one. Let's live it up and live it proud, 34TH OI!

- Please be reminded that you need to pass up your edusave form as soon as possible if you have not do so.

- Please make sure that you are at woodlands interchange, outside of boots and shoes by 1.15pm. You must attend the uniform fitting session to get your uniform.

-Please let me know who is coming befor 12pm on friday
